Founded under the name of El-Mohandes in 1983 by Dr. Mohamed Khamis, Eng. Aly Khamis and Eng. Tarek Abdu. With its permanent headquarters in Cairo, AMI (Al-Mohandas International Co.) quickly gained a reputation as a forward-thinking and reliable engineering contractor. The company was built on highly skilled individuals that instilled a culture of problem solving and determination from the onset.
1994, an ambitious investment was made by AMI to achieve market leader status within the Diesel Generator segment. A meticulously planned and purpose built factory was constructed with the intricacies of generator assembly in mind. This goal was fulfilled in 2 years with an initial production capacity totaling 500 sets per year and reaching an upper limit of 800 KVA power.
By 1998, AMI successfully a multitude of complex projects for a client list spanning several key industries. With its reputation rapidly growing, AMI was accredited with the ISO 9001 Quality Certificate. This alone could have been read as an indicator of success, it would eventually double as a sign that AMI needed to continue to grow in order to fully realize its potential in a market that saw increased demand and larger, more powerful sets. In 1999, AMI invested in the following growth avenues:
1 – Doubling the annual production capacity from 500 to 1000 sets.
2 – Expanding set range from 800 KVA to 2000 KVA
3 – A new factory to accommodate this increased activity.
5 – Significantly expanding our Export business in Africa & the Middle East.
4 – Investing in further training our resident engineers while bringing in new staff to accommodate increased operations.
By 2001, AMI had realized its potential in terms of production capacity to meet market demand. With its core business booming, AMI expanded its portfolio to better serve our clients by providing the following products:

AMI has continuously proved to be an engineering force to be reckoned with over the years. Production Department
AMI production area is divided into four different lines of well-equipped production lines, as follows:
Low voltage line-up to 250 kVA generator
Medium and low voltage line for above 250 up to 2500 kVA generator
Canopies, trailers, ISO containers and special products, such as irrigation power packs welding and compressor sets
Medium and low voltage control and distribution panels, including ATS, AMF distribution, and Synchronizing panels
Quality Department
Carries on a daily monitoring process for AMI product during different phases of production, The department implements high precision tools to measure the compatibility of the finished product to specifications and standards.
After-Sales Service
Provides quality services to end users, implementing specialized engineers, technicians, well-equipped workshop and spare parts section, to ensure AMI customer satisfaction and minimum downtime.
Research and Development
An in-house design team provides CAD's designs, drawings for AMI standard product and different solutions for power generation projects.
Logistics Department
This department handles company material flow from local or overseas vendors, ensuring the availability of high quality components required for manufacturing.
Marketing and Sales Department
Operates with a number of 12 engineers handles different business sectors, all are experienced in the field of power generation applications.

Prof. Dr. Eng. Mohammed Khamis
Chairman, born in 1947.
Graduated from Ain Shams University, Faculty of Engineering, Power Mechanics in 1969. Eng. Khamis would go on to realize his potential by being awarded his PhD in 1982 and now he is the Professor of Thermal Energy & Power Stations at the El Azhar University. Dr. Khamis’ is not only a founder of AMI, but one of its thought leaders during its inception.
He tirelessly worked with employees when it came to their academic and professional growth within the company. Dr. Khamis’ would go on to be a highly influential figure his field & within the Genset market. It was through his and Aly Khamis’ combined efforts that AMI saw a surge in the early 2000’s.
Dr. Khamis brings over 37 years of academic and professional experience to AMI. Just as Al-Azhar University is indebted to his vast experience and knowledge, AMI owes a great debt to Dr. Khamis for his continuous effort to establish AMI as a pillar of the diesel generator market in Egypt.
Eng. Aly Khamis
(1958-2011)
Graduated from Cairo University, Faculty of Engineering, Power Mechanics Department in 1980. With more than 26 years of professional experience in Strategic Planning Techniques, Project Management, Feasibility studies, Organization & Technical Administration.

Eng. Aly Khamis’ academic and professional career would share the following qualities; ambition, vision and perseverance. Al-Mohandas International embodies these qualities to this day. He took it upon himself to accumulate business and technical experience locally and abroad to help him accomplish his vision. Upon the completion of his undergraduate degree, he would go on to study power station applications in Switzerland in the search of professional and personal development.
This trajectory would be mirrored in his professional career as Orascom, where he excelled for a number of years until he felt he had the experience necessary to take the first steps toward achieving his vision. He took a small engineering consultancy office in Dokki and under his stewardship and with the partnership of his brother, Dr.
Mohamed Khamis, they made turned it into a successful and rapidly growing engineering consultancy business. As a Professor at Al-Azhar University, Dr. Khamis integral in the early success of El-Mohandes.
Soon thereafter, Eng. Aly Khamis would go onto found Al-Mohandas International Co. – one of the very first assemblers of diesel generators in the Middle East and an engineering institution in Egypt.
Eng. Aly Khamis always demanded those around him to become better as much as he did so with himself. This was reflected in training courses held at Al-Mohandas that were started by Eng. Aly Khamis and received continuous support and contributions from him moving forward. Everything that makes Al-Mohandas International exceptional, successful and unique is owed to Eng. Aly Khamis. Forever a visionary, father and inspiration.
Mrs. Mona Hassan
CEO & Managing Director, born in 1959.
Graduated from Cairo University, Faculty of Sciences in 1981. Mrs.
Hassan exhibited boundless curiosity and ambition as early as her teenage years. Prior to Al-Mohandas she spent her summers in the UK working several jobs just so she could experience what the world had to offer. She would also go on to teach biology briefly before embarking on the course she is on now to this day.
Mrs. Hassan’s uncanny ability to connect with and effectively communicate with people locally and abroad was of great value when she began her career as in Sales and Marketing at AMI.
She is responsible for some of the most notable local and foreign sales in AMI’s history while also providing several marketing strategies that would help launch AMI as a truly international entity. Her handling of exhibition appearances and event management is unparalleled. Throughout the years, her role would expand until she assumed the role of General Manager where she has exhibited every one of her 30 years of experience in this market.
Eng. Tarek Abdou
Member of board, Technical Director, born in 1957.
Graduated from Cairo University, Faculty of Engineering, Power Mechanics in 1981.
Eng. Tarek Abdou, a childhood friend and brother in law of Eng. Aly Khamis presented AMI with the technical backbone and foresight that allowed us to be a ground-breaking and technically innovative business.
Eng. Abdou has proven to be an irreplaceable asset throughout the years that would enrich our mechanical design, quality, implementation, production and maintenance functions. Alongside Eng. Aly Khamis they would go on to shape our philosophy as an engineering firm and as a genset builder for the coming years. Known as our resident technical problem solver, Eng. Abdou would be amongst the first to be on the ground to handle any technical issues that required immediate intervention. His passion for his work was infectious as he made those around him more proficient, knowledgeable and motivated.
It was through his technical expertise and willingness to delve into amicable discussions with suppliers was one of the factors that gave AMI a global reputation as an engineering firm that truly understands every single facet of it’s final product.
